It's official! Phoenix is 100% ours! We got the call about twenty minutes ago from Vanessa, our Case Manager, letting us know that we are Mommy and Daddy now. You have no idea what a relief it was to hear those words come out of her mouth! I think Jon and I gained about 10 pounds today. We were so nervous that we just sat here in the hotel room and ate, All Day! We didn't want to go anywhere or do anything.
He is such an amazing baby. We have kissed on him all day. It seems to good to be true, unreal actually. It's the most amazing feeling, I cannot describe how whole I feel now. It's like a piece of the puzzle was missing all of this time and the puzzle is connected now. I have more love for Phoenix than I ever thought possible. We love him so much and cannot wait until everyone at home gets to see our little bundle of joy. We are still looking at coming home next Wednesday, hopefully.
I forgot to mention a few thank you shout outs.
Thank you to my family, (Mom, Dad, Grandparents, Sister, Cousins and their Significant others, -Bradley for camping out at the Aurora Fest stand all night -, my Aunts and Uncles, pretty much all of our family and friends) for setting up at the Aurora Fest to help raise money for the adoption, Jennifer, Kevin, and Florence Brown for moving our furniture around and setting up the nursery, to Jon's Grandmother (Mimi) for washing clothes, cleaning our house and carpets, Jon's cousins and aunts for bringing us clothes, Jon's sister for clothes, diapers, blankets, helping us Monday night pack, and get things together, relaying information, everything we needed she helped out..., Jon's Mom and Dad for letting us use their Credit Card for traveling expenses until we can get home and sign for the money. Thank you to all of the girls and Scott at work for caring so much - you guys are great, Jenna painted signs for our booth at Aurora Fest and her mom went to help work it today, thanks Jenna and Jackie! Natalie and Justin you are wonderful. They came to our house Monday night during the frenzy and brought us clothes, necessities, a carrier/carseat, they went to Wal-Mart and bought me pajamas, shirts, and baby stuff we needed. Thank you Mandy for helping out at the house, sorry I had to cancel your hair appointment, a little boy trumped me doing your hair! Basically, if you helped us, you know who you are. If I forgot to mention your name, understand that I'm a little scatterbrained right now. I'm on information overload!
Whew... I feel like I've won an Emmy! I would've been kicked off the stage by now, though.
There are a couple very important thanks that overpower the rest. We would like to thank God for making this possible. Miracles happen everyday, and he placed one in our lives. Thank you to Phoenix's Birth Parents for selflessly giving us the most important gift we will ever recieve. This is a gift that we will never take for granted and will love and cherish until the day we die. Without them we might have never experienced the joys of parenthood. I know we are excited, but we cannot fathom what heartbreak and loss they are experiencing right now. It's a bittersweet moment. We will have a bond with them forever, and I hope one day Phoenix will know what love they had for him. They were willing to give up something so special to know that he could be well taken care of, something they feared they could not handle at this moment in their lives. We will never judge them, never! They are people just like us, looking out for the best interest of one little boy-Phoenix.
Last Night was a much better night for the three of us. Jon went to sleep at around 8:00 while I stayed up and got all of the pictures posted. I was up at 10:30 when Phoenix woke up hungry. So, I fed and him and let Jon sleep. The next time he woke up was about 3:00. Jon fed him that time, and then I woke up to help burp and change him. Right now it is 7:10 here. Pheonix should be waking up any minute. So he is lengthening the time between feedings, and that's great.
Today is the big day. We will be waiting for the phone call to let us know that the Birth Parents signed the papers. Jon and I do not anticipate any problems or feel like they will change their minds. But, we will still be waiting on pins and needles today.
Our laundry is piling up by the minute, and today we will be washing clothes. Thank Goodness their is a washer and dryer in this hotel we are staying at. At some point we will be getting out and taking a little road trip to the fire station. They told us they had a better car seat, so we will be trading out. Other than that we are stumped for things to do. We are confined to the walls of our hotel room, unless we find out something worth getting out for. I would like to take some pictures of the scenery here. It is strange to see palm trees, cacti, mountains, trees, dirt, and gravel all in one place. Everywhere you look or turn there is a mountain. This area is in a valley surrounded by mountains. Their towns here are set up on a grid system. It gets confusing at times, but it is neat. It is finally supposed to cool off here this weekend, low 90's. When we got here it was 104 degrees. It is scorching hot, but there is no humidity and you don't sweat. It is crazy!
Maybe tomorrow or Sunday we will have more pictures to post. Keep checking back!
Jon and I found a target a few miles from our hotel this morning and put pictures of Phoenix onto a disk. I'm finally putting them on here. I know everyone is anxious, so enjoy. There will be more pictures of him on here in a couple of days.
Update:
Last night the three of us didn't get much sleep. He woke up hungry every 2-3 hours. We are pretty sure he is going to have to sleep with a light on because every time we turned it off he got angry. We had several feedings and diaper changes. Jon finally changed a poopy diaper! This is a big accomplishment for him... he has never changed one before! We got pooped on once and he peed on us too! Obviously at 3:00 your reflexes aren't up to parr. They told us he was possibly lactose intolerant, so we are feeding him soy formula. He's doing well with it, (eating a whole bottle each time)! We just made his follow up appointment here in Arizona for Tuesday at 1:00. We are more than likely looking at coming home next Wednesday. The Birth Parents will sign the papers tomorrow, and then they will be overnighted to Kentucky. Once Kentucky approves the paperwork they will give us a call, and we are free to leave at that point.
That's all of the news we have for today. Here are the pictures:
Hi Everybody! We are finally getting to post our progress now that we have the Internet. I would like to apologize. We aren't able to post pictures yet because we are going to have to take our memory card to Wal-Mart to get the pictures put on a CD. Trust me... I want you guys to see him so bad!
We have had a crazy couple of days. First off... We named our baby boy Phoenix Nash Bowlin. We didn't really have all that much time to look up names. I originally liked the names Crosby and Cooper, but as you can tell... We went a completely different direction. We arrived at the Phoenix Airport at about 11:00, (1:00 Kentucky Time). We had to get all of our baggage and ride a bus to rent a car. We got a Saturn Vue. It is a really nice vehicle. Anyway... From the airport we drove around forever trying to find Phoenix Baptist Hospital and a hotel in the vicinity of the hospital area. We found both and went to Wal-Mart to buy the Birth Parents Flowers, a cute vase, and a card. I had to quickly arrange the flowers and make them presentable. We were right on time to meet our Case Worker, Vanessa at 1:30. On to the Birth Parent's room we went. Yesterday we spent about 3 hours holding Phoenix and talking with his Birth Parents. After about an hour the conversation flowed smoothly. They asked us questions they were concerned with, and voiced their assuredness in their decision. It killed us to have to leave the baby, but we hadn't slept in two days. Our eyes were heavy and our bodies were running on pure adrenaline. Twelve hours of sleep later we were completely rejuvenated. But... we were very anxious to see Phoenix again. We got to the hospital at about 9:30 this morning, went to tell the Birth Mother hi, and that we were going to spend time with him in the nursery. We got our wrist bands and held him for about 3 hours. He was asleep the whole time. The doctor finally came in and told us that whenever the paperwork was completed by the social worker he was free to be discharged into our care. We had a few things to do before we got to bring him to our hotel. It was about 7:00 here before we left the hospital, but now we are sitting here in the hotel getting ready to feed him and get some shut eye until about 3:00. Then we will wake up, feed him again, and go back to sleep to do it all over again! I love it! Hopefully by lunch your time tomorrow there will be some pictures of him on here.
